Earlier today the SA Agulhas icebreaker left the Coldest Journey team lead by Sir Ranulph Fiennes on the ice shelf at Crown Bay, Antarctica. The Agulhas with the support team members will head back home to Cape Town.
The Ice Group will shorlty head off to lay a fuel dump inland in preparation for the first Winter Crossing of Antarctica, which will itself start on 21st March 2013.
A strange day for all concerned but the preparations are complete and everything was successfully offloaded. Anything not needed by the Ice Group is now back on board so that no rubbish will be left at Crown Bay when the team start their crossing.
